Mosquito Control Program
How Westchester Organics Does Things Differently
Surveillance is a critical component to any successful IPM program because the results from the surveillance will help determine the appropriate response to an infestation. Extensive infestations, or those where disease is present, merit a different response than will lower levels of infestations. Both the CDC and EPA recognize a legitimate and compelling need for the use of pesticide applications, under certain circumstances, to control adult mosquitoes. This is especially true during periods of mosquito-borne disease transmission or when source reduction and larval control have failed or are not feasible.

By using these tactics we can work towards solving the problem, instead of coming, spraying and leaving like many of our competitors. As each property is significantly different, our goal is to establish a plan of action with each of our customers and provide updates through out the season. Our free property consultation in the beginning of the season is very important to our goals. It allows us to not only come up with our plan of action, but to understand our customers on a personal level. We will take note of small details that go a long way, such as pets, children, surrounding areas, problematic areas on and off the property and where your family tends to gather the most.

The Mosquito Life Cycle
Water is a necessary part of their habitat. Mosquitoes have four life stages: egg, larva, pupa and adult. They can live and reproduce inside and outside the home. The entire life cycle, from an egg to an adult, takes approximately 8-10 days. With this rapid cycle of breeding and environmental climate the population of mosquitoes have become grave problem in our part of the United States.
Reducing Mosquito Populations on Your Property
-Tree And Shrub Maintenance-

Mosquitos love to take shelter in grasses, woodpiles, bushes, and shrubbery. By mowing your lawn, cutting overgrown trees, and keeping plant beds tidy, you will make your property less accommodating for pesky mosquitoes. We also recommend clearing any debris in flower beds and covering woodpiles to prevent water from accumulating after rains.

At Westchester Organics we aim to solve your mosquito problem, rather then mask it with heavy chemicals. Using advanced Integrated Pest Management (IPM) tactics, we will not only eliminate current pests, but also prevent further infestation with all-natural, safe and effective approaches. When conducting an evaluation of the property being treated our technicians will use the IPM approach to help educate the property owner on strategies to combat mosquito breeding and repellent. A holistic approach means more than just regular applications, and Westchester Organics does it all.

IPM is a science-based, common-sense approach for managing pests and unwanted insects, especially mosquitoes. IPM uses a variety of traditional and newly derived techniques that focus on pest prevention, pest reduction, and the elimination of conditions that lead to pest infestations. Our specific IPM programs also rely heavily on resident education and pest monitoring. A successful IPM strategy also utilizes regular applications of organic and all-natural pesticide. IPM uses a combination of data and best practices to control mosquito populations with decisions based on surveillance, such as keeping track of the numbers and species of mosquitoes in an area both regionally and seasonally.
